Root Canal Therapy

At Lakeshore Family Dentistry, we understand that maintaining a healthy smile is important! In order to take care of your smile, we recommend visiting your dentist on a regular basis. Regular checkups allow us to check for signs of decay and infection. When caught early, minimal treatment is usually needed. Left untreated, tooth decay can spread and become a bigger problem and could eventually cause a major toothache or even require tooth extraction.

What Is Root Canal Therapy?

One of the treatments recommended for saving a tooth from extraction is called root canal therapy. This is performed on a tooth that has experienced the spread of decay. When decay has spread throughout a tooth and reaches the pulp of the tooth, it can cause a toothache and require treatment to save the tooth from being extracted.

The Process

If a root canal is recommended, your dentist will set up an appointment for treatment. At this appointment, your dentist will ensure that you are completely comfortable before beginning the root canal. Once you are ready and the area around the tooth is numb, your dentist will carefully remove all decay and also remove the pulp of the tooth. Once all decay is gone, your dentist will clean and seal the tooth. Following treatment, your dentist may recommend covering the tooth with a dental crown. A dental crown can restore the look and function of your tooth and help you avoid future harm to your smile.

Root canal therapy can go a long way in saving your smile. If you are in need of root canal therapy and live in the Greendale, WI community, we can help! We will go the extra mile to help preserve your smile!
